What does it really mean to get older? The answer may be changing. From the way society portrays aging to the choices, opportunities, and decisions that come with it, this stage of life is far more varied and far more interesting than many of us have been led to believe.

September’s program takes a fresh look at aging from both sides: challenging the assumptions that shape how we see ourselves while offering practical information to help us make informed choices about the future. Because getting older isn’t just about how we think about aging—it’s about how we live it.

Sierra Scott and Jill Miller take a fresh, playful look at aging and challenge some of the assumptions we’ve been carrying. From what gets better with age to reinventing yourself, staying visible, and deciding what’s next, this conversation is about embracing who you are becoming—and what you’re not done doing yet.

At 62, Sierra Scott holds five consecutive national pageant titles, including Ms. America Elite, Ms. United States, and Ms. Senior World.

A veteran television news anchor with more than 37 years of broadcast experience, Sierra currently hosts two television programs: Positively Kansas! and The LG Desk Series, which she co-hosts with the Kansas Lieutenant Governor and features successful Kansans, including Melissa Etheridge.

An award-winning journalist, Sierra produced a documentary on Sudan that premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and the United Nations. She also stars in Wichita Madhouse, believed to be the nation’s first locally produced television sitcom.

A graduate of the prestigious Leadership Kansas program, Sierra served as state program chair and was appointed to its Board of Trustees. She has also served on the boards of 22 charities and volunteers an average of 500 hours each year hosting, organizing, and fundraising for charitable causes. Her commitment to service has earned her three Presidential Gold Medals for Volunteerism.

Sierra has appeared in two movies, two national television shows, and two national talk shows. She has also starred in a music video and hosts the podcast Fierce, Feisty and 50 Plus. She has walked the runways at Paris and New York Fashion Weeks and appeared on the covers of five magazines, including the international publication Shoeholics.

And then there are the shoes. Sierra reportedly owns 1,000 pairs.

Jill D. Miller is an entrepreneur, educator, author, storyteller, and community builder who is passionate about helping people continue to grow—professionally, personally, and in every season of life. She is the Program Director for the Empowered Seniors Seminar Series, where she helps create meaningful opportunities for mature adults to learn, connect, and embrace new possibilities.

Through her consulting company, Creative Solutions, Jill has spent nearly three decades helping individuals and organizations clarify their message, share their ideas, and create meaningful connections. She is also the Headmistress of the Finishing School for Modern Women and founder of the Badass Women of Wichita Alliance, where she creates opportunities for women to learn, connect, support one another, and step boldly into new chapters of life. She believes community is built one conversation, one connection, and one shared experience at a time.

A lifelong collector of stories and champion of human connection, Jill is fascinated by the experiences, memories, and lessons that shape our lives and communities. She believes every person has a story worth preserving and that the memories we pass along become part of the legacy we leave behind—connecting families, strengthening communities, and helping future generations understand where they came from.
